They understand how to login and how to use the app. To assist your classroom with getting started, here are some helpful resources. First Grade through Third Grade 1. Watch this video before the big day. It explains the Hour of Code to teachers. 2. Show this video to your class before you participate in the Hour of Code. This video will help your class become familiar with a skill needed to participate.

Summer is just around the corner! With it comes all of the fun outdoor activities, hobbies, and family time we all love. I want to challenge you to make reading part of that family time! The Summer Reading Playbook lists fourteen different challenge options. You decide with your family which challenges will work best for you! Depending on your grade, the number of challenges you will complete is different. Students moving to kindergarten and first grade are challenged to complete six. Students advancing to grades second and third are challenged to complete eight. Students advancing to the fourth and fifth grade are challenged to meet ten. Each time you complete a challenge, your parent will initial that the challenge is complete.
The challenges are all very different and give you a chance to explore different genres, writing, art, and even sharpen your presentation skills! If you select to write a book review, you will submit it here! Or, you may also write it using the playbook template. You can print the template here! If you select to take the ultimate challenge and read twenty picture books or ten chapter books, you will list the titles on your playbook template too! If you decide to record a video book review, remember to plan it out on paper first. You can record your review here! Please join us in the media center for story time the week of January 10th. We will learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life, accomplishments, and impact on society. We will conclude story time with creating thank you cards for display in the media center. This activity is perfect for students in grades 1st and 2nd. Students in Pre-K and kindergarten will listen to My Itty Bitty Bio: Martin Luther King, Jr. and color a book mark.
For students in grades 3rd though 5th, we will challenge students to ESCAPE the media center by completing tasks focused on Dr. King's life and accomplishments. This activity will encourage students to work in groups, skim non-fiction texts, and problem solve.

NASA's Space Helicopter
Sign your fourth and fifth graders up to learn about the planet Mars. Students will bring his or her Chromebooks to this hands-on scavenger hunt. Students will use Google forms and ebooks to unlock the secrets of Mars while collecting the needed parts to build a model of Ingenuity. This lesson will give students practice using eBooks, require students to work in teams, follow directions, and built a model! Lots of challenging fun to be had here!
Let's Learn About Animals!
sSign your second and third graders up to learn how to conduct research using online resources like Britannica Animal Encyclopedia, a rich resource the state of Georgia makes available. Students will collect meaningful facts using a Google Drawings graphic organizer. Students will need to bring Chromebooks to this lesson.

Bring your first grade class in to learn how to us Britannica's Animal Encyclopedia. Students listen and read facts using the encyclopedia. After collecting one fun fact, students will create a Bat Fact Puzzle!
Season Story Time Alert! It's Pumpkin Time
We'll read Pick a Pumpkin by Patricia Toht. After story time students will create 3D virtual pumpkins using the Quiver app.
Let's Build the Largest Pumpkin that FME has EVER SEEN! Pre-K and K Students Needed!
We need every kindergarten and pre-k class to participate in this lesson. We will listen to The Vanishing Pumpkin by Tony Johnston. It is a zany story about a 700 year old female witch and an 800 year old male witch are on a hunt to find the vanishing pumpkin. During this lesson we will add 100 orange squares per class to build a pumpkin with 800 pieces!
Virtual Author Event with Kwame Mbalia, author of the Tristan Strong series
Sign your class up to attend in the media center or in your classroom October 15th at 1:00pm. In this session the author will discuss his writing process and share African and West African tales.
Students will work in pairs to participate in this fun review of world geography. Pairs will pick a world location card and then work together to drive the Sphero to the location. The media center needs a paper mache solar system and tour guides! Will your class take this mission? This lesson will span multiple visits. Students begin by collecting information in groups for a dedicated planet. Once the information has been collected and approved by the teacher/ media specialist, the sticky fun begins! Students will use their collected information to create their planet. The best planets will become part of the media solar system. We will culminate this project with a guided tour of the solar system. The student tour guides will be recorded and video will be shown on the morning news to the whole school!
